Commander Sam Vimes reluctantly goes on vacation, only to discover that crimes are committed in the countryside too. Only, nobody seems to report them.
Commander Sam Vimes is on vacation, perhaps for the first time in his life, in the countryside. The uncomfortable quiet and chirping of birds is getting to him, when he is led to discover that a crime has been committed.
The local smith is missing and a young goblin girl has been murdered, although neither the locals nor the law sees goblins as people. Yet.
There seems to be something more than fishy going on and it involves not only goblins, but also smuggling and people in very high places. Fortunately, sir Vimes has his wife, his manservant and the local police by his side.
Miss Felicity Beedle, children's books author, makes an appearance in this novel. In previous books, she has only been mentioned by name.
This is yet another great mystery fantasy novel, filled with Pratchettisms, humour, warmth and riverboats.
